Introduction
The Stupa 'Ramgram Stupa' built by the kings of the ancient Koliya Republic is important for the whole world. In the context of continuous research by local and foreign nationals, Anoma Ghat, another Buddhist pilgrimage site within the Koliya Republic, has been identified as the place where Siddhartha Gautam took Mahabhinishkraman. Anoma Ghat, locally known as (Thadighat) in Susta village of Nawalparasi is the eastern border of the Lumbini province of Nepal. It is also the confluence of India's Bihar state, Uttar Pradesh state in the south, and Gandaki state in the east across the Narayani (Anoma) river in the east.
This place can also be taken as the starting point of Siddhartha Gautama's Bodhi and established as God. Even though Siddhartha Gautama attained Bodhi (enlightenment) in Bodh Gaya, India, it was the departure point of that enlightenment, that is, the place where he abdicated the position of king and took sannyasa, so it is also the departure point of Bodhi.
Present Location of Anomaghat
On the world map, this place is located at latitude 27 degrees 22 minutes 19 seconds and longitude 83 degrees 51 minutes 9.33 seconds in the north.
How was Anoma Ghat named Thadhi Ghat?
The Mahabhinishkraman site is the Anoma Ghat of the Anoma River (Narayani)
, the last eastern border of the ancient
Koliya Republic. It is now known as
Thadhi Ghat since ancient times in Susta Village 5 of Nawalparasi District, Lumbini Province. At the place where
Siddhartha left the royal palace, without stopping anywhere in the middle, he reached the bank of the
Anoma river and stood (that is, standing). That is why this ghat has been known as
Thadhi Ghat since that time.
Story of Anomaghat
The ancient boundaries of the Koliya Republic were the Chure mountain in the north, the Pipliban boundary in the south, the Rohini river in the west, and the Anoma river in the east.
Siddhartha left his Sakya kingdom and reached Anoma Ghat, the last part of the boundary of the Koliya Republic. He gave his beloved charioteer Channa his crown, sword, and royal dress and said, "Channa, you are not only my charioteer but also my friend from childhood, take all this and give it to Maharaj Suddhodhana and inform that Yuvraj now went in search of knowledge, after attaining knowledge he will return. And I will come back as soon as I get the answer to the question that has arisen in my mind. War is not a solution to any question with Maharaj.
Tell the mother that the mother who gives birth may not see love, but you are greater than that. Tell Aunt Mangala that the coronation will definitely take place, but not Siddhartha's, but the elder Devadatta's. Tell the elder Devadatta that my legs have grown stronger by fighting against every hatred I have received from him since childhood. I know that he loves me.
Telling Gopa that is, Yashodhara that she made my life her own, and I will always be indebted to her. Every wife pays attention to her husband's wishes and dislikes. But maybe there is only some wife who takes care of their husband. Even though she knew that I was leaving, she did not oppose me. If I am successful in my resolution, then the entire human race will be indebted to him for that sacrifice.
Mahabhinishkraman Occasion at Anomaghat
On the occasion of Asar Purnima,
Mahabhinishkraman occasion initiated at
Anoma ghat for the first time since 2078 Asar Purnima day with the support of
Susta village and
Peace Club International Nepal Nawalparasi. In continuation of the same, on the full moon of 2079 Asar Purnima, on the occasion of Lord Gautama Buddha's
Mahabhinishkraman day, he got immortality at Anoma Ghat, the place of
Mahabhinishkraman. On the occasion of Katik Purnima in the year 2079, the village also started the work of lighting a thousand lamps. At
Anomaghat, Katik
Purnima and Asar Purnima have started to take the form of an important Purnima. Apart from that, the traffic of tourists and pilgrims is increasing daily.
However, there is a need for archaeological and historical research. This Anoma Ghat, which has great potential to become a sacred pilgrimage site for Buddhist pilgrims around the world, needs to be developed as a place that can attract the attention of not only Nepal and Nepali, but also the world. In addition to researching and identifying this place, the local government is most responsible for developing the necessary infrastructure and promoting it. That government is Susta Gaunpalika. This Thadhighat village,
which has been neglected for years, has started the development infrastructure work, and in the future, it will become the second Buddhist pilgrimage site after Ramgram in the district. On the initiative of the village itself, a development campaign has been started as Buddha Dham. The role of the village is important and mandatory towards increasing the initiative step by step up to the state and union government. The municipality is confident of taking the lead in this work as well.
